Every Boy Needs a Barkley!

I had the privilege of meeting my momma's cousin's little boy, Carsen this week.  We met while celebrating the life of my momma's Grandpa Milt.  I enjoyed playing with Carsen and giving him kisses to help make him smile.  Here is a video of me playing with Carsen.  I think Carsen wanted me to come home with him, but my momma said I HAD to go home with her.  Maybe someday Carsen and I can play some more.   I really had fun playing with him!!!

Also, in the video you may notice that I have a new harness.  That is because I am a strong boy.  While at Great Grandma's house, I learned if you pull hard enough on a tie out, my collar comes off, and then I am FREE to peruse the neighborhood.  I did get in trouble from my Grandma Kathy and my momma!  Also, my momma had to clean my poop off of Grandma's shoe, while she was searching for me!

Voodoo Teddy Bear

For my momma's 32nd birthday she was given a teddy bear.  Unfortunately for her, but lucky for me 2 months later I inherited the teddy bear, (Note to 2-legged people, you have to read between the lines).

Anyway, I love this Teddy Bear.   I play with the Teddy Bear with my Aunt Maggie for Tug-O-War.  Then the bear got a whole.  DO you know what is inside of a Bear???? Stuffing, a puppies delight!!!!I have pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled all this stuffing out.  I don't understand though why I can't eat the stuffing.  Momma doesn't care that I leave it on the ground, but she will not let the stuffing go into my lovely little tummy.  Momma has even helped me pull out stuffing.   Sadly, she throws the stuffing away in the garbage.

I tell you though, Momma was really proud when I ripped out an eye.   She has nicknamed my bear Voodoo.  Voodoo sleeps with me at night.  He is one of my pals at the moment.  I think my next mission will be to get the other eye out or destroy the bow.

Here is a picutre of voodoo and me.

King of the Pillows

Lately my new favorite thing to do besides playing with dogs, going to daycare, playing ball, and chewing bones is KNOCKING PILLOWS off beds and couches.  I must admit it makes my momma laugh.  She has told me I choose to knock pillows off of beds and couches because I'm a boy.  See, I really don't understand why she has pillows--Especially having 10 pillows on a bed.  All those pillows do is clutter the bed.  I have decided it is my job to remove the excess pillows off the beds and couches, so I have MORE room on the bed to sprawl out.

Sometimes on days where I have more energy and feel devillish, I choose to take the comforter off the bed, the blankets off the bed, and the sheet off the bed.  See I really prefer to just a flat sheet.  Why do you need blankets and sheets and comforters??? I guess it is that momma gets cold at night.  BUT it is fun to knock it all to the ground.

I have a few picture of me agian.  One is of me chewing my big bone.  I just love bones.  Also in the background is the bed I messed up!!!

The guest bedroom pillow knockover

My bed and my big bone!

One final question for you all:  Why do women like pillows?   Here's my momma queston:  Why do men think pillows are a nuisance?

WhAt A sUmMeR!!!

Greetings to all

My momma and I have finally gotten back to writing on this blog after a wonderful summer.  Here are a favorite of my highlights.

My favorite of the summer was spending over 3 weeks with my Aunt Maggie!!  I spent 12 days with her at her lake home.  I enjoyed pontooning, walking in the woods.  I did also take an unexpected swim in the lake.  Boy was that refreshing and I'm glad my momma helped me out of the water.  I'm not so sure if Grandpa and Grandma enjoyed my daily wake-up call around 7:00 AM.  Iwas just so happy to be at Grandma and Grandpa's home.

I also got to play by my two, two-legged cousins!!  The littlest one even went in my house and tried to eat my food.  She kept saying Woof, Woof.  Then Maggie came and visited me in Rochester.  She was so lucky to visit me.  She got to go to daycare too.  I think that I like daycare more than here though!!!

I have had so much fun barking in the backyard at cats, squirrels, birds, kids, neighbor bob, and a slug.  I will have you know I caught the slug and ate it!  I also like my neighbor bob.  The other day he fed me a chocolate ice cream cone...a real human one.  My momma was not so happy with neighbor bob.

I love daycare still.  Renee the owner is so good to me.  Now, that school has started some of my doggie friends are back at daycare.  Also,  Renee told my momma that I am a very SMART terrier.  I now can recognize my favorite playmates by the car that is driven into the parking lot!!!

I better show you a few pictures of me!!! Here they come :)

Aunt Maggie loved the pontoon rides!!!!

See She is goning into my kennel.  Isn't that silly~~~

The Gardener--Barkley

I was such a big helper to my momma yesterday!  We planted flowers around a tree.  First, my momma dog up weeds.  While she did that I layed down in the flower bed.  Next when, she dog a hole for the flower, I assisted and dug a bigger hole for her.  She put water in the hole, and I chose to drink the water.  She planted the flowers.  She did a really nice job.  When she was cleaning up the yard, I chose to eat one of the flowers.  Momma wasn't happy.  There is now a new rule in the house--Barkley can not eat the flowers.  After gardening, I got a bath to was all the mud off of me.  What a fun day, playing in the dirt with my momma!

My Friend Bear

I have a new doggie friend named Bear.   He lives at my cousin's house, and he is a puppy.  He is a Labradoodle.  I do like playing with him.  One thing, I sure can outrun him in the yard.   I run and run circles and at time's he just stands there and watches me.  He is a great playmate.  He also lives with Mille (Goldendoodle) and Zoey (Standard Poodle).  Here are some fun picutres of my playdates at their house.
Playing with Bear at his house...
Really, I'm not that ferocious.
Zoey is the Referee of the two little dogs.
Millie is the #1 dog of the house.
I was so lucky to play with the dogs two times in one week.  Once on Mother's Day and then on my Favorite doggie lover 9-year-old's Birthday.  Happy Birthday E.T.W.

Spring 2010

My momma took a big test today!!  That is a good thing, because now she won't have to study, and she can spend more time with me.  I asked her to help me post pictures of this spring, so here they come!!!

Easter 2010

My Aunt Maggie came to visit me along with Grandma and Grandpa.  Grandma made us Easter egg scarfs.  Note all the pictures momma took.  Maggie and I decided we wouldn't cooperate for the camera. Which picture is your favorite?

Buffalo

This is my new yummy dog food from Solid Gold.  It is called Just A Wee Bit.  And it is made out of Buffalo.  Do you know my relative is on the package? Makes it that much better.

Happy May Day

My favorite 3 Neighbors brought me a May Day present!!!  I almost caught them with my momma's help.  Thanks, I love my chicken treats!  If I had been close enough to Grandpa, I would have left him a "special present" at his doorstep that starts with a T and ends with a D

May  Day Again
These are the treats we gave our neighbors and family members.  Who do they remind you of???  Is this narcissistic?

A Chew Toy or Not a Chew Toy?
Everynight I see my momma put this in her mouth, and it smells soooooo good.  So I decided it could be a chew toy.  I decided it smelled like my momma; it tasted like my momma, and chewed just like raw hide? When my momma saw me, I got my answer--this is not a chew toy.   Let's just say my momma is not happy with me, and she can't get in to see the doctor until the middle of July.  I chewed about half of it....My momma cleaned it really well, and is trying to use it until the new one comes.

Happy Birthday Barkley!!!!!!
Many of you, may have wondered, why I haven't posted anything lately.  Well, my momma has been busy, she promises to write more and more.  Some of you may associate May 5th with Cinco De Mayo.   That is fine, but I will be celebrating something more personal for me.  Today is my Birthday!  I am officially ONE. My birthdate is May 5, 2009.  I have sure learnt alot this past year.  I now know that I need to go potty outside.  I am a great car rider now that I sit in the front seat.  I can sit on command.  I am an excellant ball player.  I can play with my tennis ball, soccer ball, and my basketball.  I know what the words walk, treat, outside, and daycare mean.  I know how to chew a ride bone really well. I am excellant at unzipping zippers and opening closet doors.  I have made lots of friends this year including the 2-legged kind and the 4-legged, furry kind.  I am also an excellant shopper at Pet Smart.   I've already started making transitions out of puppyhood.  I get to eat this new really good  dog food that is made out of buffalo.  Yup I eat buffalo.  My momma says tonight after dinner I get to eat puppy ice cream!!!!! I can't wait.  Also my momma said that daycare might have a little party for me today.  I'm also wearing my new styling shirt today!  I'm such a lucky puppy...oops I mean doggie :)

I LOVE walks

Do you see what I see??  I see Grass!  I also am on a walk.  I was such a lucky doggie yesterday because my momma took me on a walk.  A really really really long walk; I almost had to be carried home.
I saw lots of things on this walk....I saw people, little birds, big birds (no not from sesame street), little dogs, and 2 big scary pitbulls that were loose...That was no good.    I was busy sniffy things.  You can see I sniffed a fire hydron!!!
Do you know what happens when, I sniff??? I soon want to write my name on everything, saying I was here.  So every chance I had, I stood on three legs and wrote my name....It was all very exciting.  I do wish my momma named me like Bob or Rob, Uno, Fiddo, because Barkley is very hard to write.  I almost lost my balance a couple times.
Today is another very nice day, so my momma and I are going to go on another walk.  I will "Bark" again soon ~ Barkley Dean

The Doggie Car Seat

I have a new get up in the car, and I'm not sure if I like it, yet.  Two weeks ago, momma brought me into Pet Smart.  I love going to the store, but I didn't know why we were going in.  We looked through the clothing and weird stuff aisle, which was next to all the bones.  All I could see where bones and more bones and more bones, but my momma had her back to them.  The next thing I new we were up paying for this thing in a box.  I didn't care at that point cause the store employee gave me a treat!  The next morning going to doggie day care, I learned what was in that box.  It was my seat belt.  It looks like a box, and then there is a very short leash that attaches to me, so I can't jump out of my box.  I was so sad those first couple times, as it meant, I could not jump around the car.  There would not be any more jumping from front to back any longer or trying to jump onto my momma's lap.  I was stuck in this box.   As I have been better at riding in my box, my momma, has adjusted the seat so I can see out the windows.

Naughty, Naughty Sunday & Monday Too

Hi All

I have been having a  great time lately; however, yesterday I started getting in trouble.  For starters, I ate more of my momma's comforter...The stuffing tastes soo good; it gets really addicting.  Secondly, I thought it would be fun to go explore the neighborhood, so I walked off the deck onto a snowbank then jumped to the driveway.  Now I must be clear, I did not ask for my momma's permission.  When she found out, boy did she have a scare to find me across the street.  Then, she had to tackle me to the ground.  She was not happy that I crossed the street  by myself.   Thirdly, I decided I would leave my momma a present...I left her a big Turd in the tub.   Let me tell you, she did not like that present!

Today, momma was shoveling snow off the deck.  At the time, I did not now why.  I wanted to play chase, so I escaped again.  It was so fun, having my momma chase me around the neighborhood, and all these random people not helping my momma.  She finally caught me and brought me home, only to find Pam at our house.  I got put in my kennel, and then they both went outside and I heard pounding.  Do you know what they did....They sealed off my escape route...Look at these pictures to see the tacky temporary fencing....

Short and Soft

Hello all again!

My momma took me to doggie day care again today!  However, this time I got to go into the people house.  I was such a special dog to go there, when all the other dogs had to play outside.  Guess what happend to me?  Renee gave me a haircut.   I guess she and my momma talked, and I got the standard Westie cut.   My momma hardly recognized me when I came out to greet her from the people house.  She thinks I look like a little Stud!  I love my haircut, but I think I will have to start using my winter coat.  Here are a couple pictures of my new doo?  Do you recognize me and do I need to wear a winter coat?

The UPS Man

When I got home from day care today, momma noted I had a package from the UPS man. What a surprise that I got a package!! Could it be a Valentine's Day gift from a secret admirer???? Only time would tell. My momma helped me open the package. Inside the box, there it was a picture of one of my cousins and a new collar. See this is what the package looks like.

Oh my cousin looks so happy to be wearing that collar!!! I wonder if the collar will make me happy too?? I told my momma to hurridly put on the collar. My momma hooked some batteries and some cologne for all those lady doggies into the collar.  I looked so handsome.  Then I went outside, and do you know what happend?  Any time I barked it squirted citronella up to my nose.  Boy, was it stinky!  I guess I may have to cut back on my barking abilities....DARN.    The moral of the lesson.  Pictures aren't everything.

Completely Canines--Love It!!!!

I sure had a great day.  Today was an exciting day.  I got to ride in the car two times.  I love to sit perched on the arm rest console, so I can see how well my momma drives.  Boy did she navigate through the snow today well.

Anyway, my momma brought me to doggie daycare today...Now some of you may say, "Barkley, why do you need to go to daycare?  Is it really necessary?"  My reply is "YES"  My momma's response is "ABSOLUTLEY"   I loved daycare!!! My momma says I get to go to day care usually on Tuesday and Thursdays; I can go more or less too.  My day care providers name is Renee.  She lets me play, and she gave me a fancy bandanna today.  Also, when she saw my momma's car today; she knew to get  my lease before my momma got out of her car!  Renee is BRILLIANT and FANTASTIC :)  Did you know that when summer happens, outside there is actually a playground just for small dogs.  There are all types of dogs--boys and girls, big and small, black and white, and multicolor.  Also did you know my friend Juno goes to daycare.  I get to go outside and inside and play and play and play.  I'm so happy my momma listend to Juno's momma.    Also Renee had some fantastic news for my momma.  She can groom me for only 18 dollars compared to the big pet store for 71 dollars!!  Maybe that means I can go to daycare more often.?!?!?!  Oh, I just know I will have so much fun with all my new friends at Completely Canines!!

I must go know and take a nap, as I am tired from my exciting day!

Nicknames

Like humans, I have nicknames as well. Some are cute, some are macho, some are down right embarassing. I will tell you about my nicknames...

The most often one is Buddy--that is what my momma calls me a lot in our daily conversations. It is a comforting nickname

Another nickname is Barkley Bear--notice how that just rolls off your tongue nicely. Barkley Bear, Barkley Bear, it is just music to my ears.

Then there is Barkley Bo Dean--I guess there is a music group called the Bo Deans. So I figure that its an honor, since my momma listens to their music once in a while.

Then there is Sparkily Barkiley--That is when my momma is being silly

Barksley--That is what neighbor Bob calls me...I think he doesn't realize my real name is Barkley, and I don't want to correct him because he will call my momma Tiffany a lot too..Who knows he may be hard of hearing.

Darkley--This is what momma calls me when I'm really naughty!!

Probably the worst name out there if Fartley--there is a story to this name. I was visiting Grandma, and I farted. Needless to say it was stinky and audible....Not one of my prouder moments at her house, but at least that time I didn't poop on the floor.

Ok so a post would not be a post, if I didn't include a picture of me in it, so I will find you a few of my favorites at Grandma's house!

This is my Aunt Maggie. We are playing tug-o-war. Note, Maggie's enthusiasm.

In this next photo, I wore Maggie out playing with her. But, I'm still ready at any moment!

This is one of my favoriet cousin's K. If you notice, my ears are still down, cause I'm a puppy.

Here is my younger cousin E, she is fun to play with and look when I was a puppy, we were the same size.

My First Photo Shoot

My head shot

My first photo shoot happend this past November. No, I was not the photographer, but the model, the subject, and the peice de resistance. We had my momma's friend, Chris, take the pictures. Thanks Chris you did a fantastic job. Ohhh and how I can't forget to thank Deb as she came to help with the shoot. Deb is a friend of my mommas, and another time, I will have to tell you about my secret crush on Deb.

Anyway, back to this photoshoot. The night before I got groomed at the petstore, so I looked very handsome. Chris had her studio in her basement. She had hats and boxes for my props, but I must say I stole the show. I was sooooo cute, that it only took 10 minutes to get these shots of me. I don't want to hurt my momma's feeling, but the shoot would have only taken 5 minutes if she didn't want to be the human model. I had a great time at Chris' house. You should have seen Chris and Deb trying to get me to smile. Deb was jumping and holding all types of balls making them squeak. Then, she would hold them over Chris' head. I still laugh about seeing Deb act like a court jester. The best photo was a miracle, because I only would stay in that box for 3 seconds prior to leaping out of it.

I bet you want to see some of the photos from this shoot, and you already have as Chris took that picture of me at the very top...That is the miraculous shot, but I know you are curious so I will show you more of them. If you ever need me to model for an event, picture, or fashion show, contact my momma! PS. Stay tuned to the Post Bulletin, the Rochester paper, I'm entering a contest--Wish me luck!!
